Q: Do I need an amplified telephone? How will it help me?

In this case, you get what you pay for. The more expensive models give far better performance than the base models.

Q: What model do I need?

A: The model choice depends on your hearing loss. In the case of milder hearing loss as experienced by people in their 40s, the base models below $150.00 will generally be fine. These base models increase volume across the whole bandwidth and are suited to low level hearing loss.

If your hearing loss is caused by industrial noise or old age, you would need to consider the top models. As with age and industrial deafness, the hearing loss occurs in the higher frequencies, such as the chh sound. These models amplify the high frequency sounds where hearing loss occurs. They work in the same way a hearing aid works; by amplifying the higher frequencies, while leaving the lower bass frequencies as they were. All this means clearer, more dynamic sound that is understandable and not muffled.

Q: I work in a noisy environment and find it hard to hear people on the phone at work, but have no problem with my phone at home.
